Course Description:
It is not uncommon for patients with chronic illness to be prescribed 5 or more medications. Chronic Illnesses are often treated with combination therapy in order to achieve various goals. Patient adherence, drug and food interactions are often common problems that can effect treatment. Whenever medication is dispensed through the pharmacy, a unique opportunity exists for enhancing the quality of patient care. By taking just a few moments to consult with the patient, a pharmacist can increase the likelihood of adherence to a drug regimen, reduce the possibility of medication errors and detect adverse reactions. This program will review strategies for addressing the complications and problems associated with taking medication, as well as, allow participates to practices proven techniques and skills to optimize adherence and minimize complexity.
Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify potential barriers to adherence of a medication regimen.
- Discuss the healthcare professional’s role in medication adherence.
- Demonstrate techniques and skills which help enhance taking medications.
